What Do We Mean By BIM Model

Within a building information modelling process (BIM), project teams are able to contribute information and data about a proposed project (such as a building or structure) in a shared digital space known as a Common Data Environment (CDE). The BIM model provides a common data platform (CDE) for all project stakeholders involved to share and collaborate on a project during design, construction and commissioning.

The BIM model has an overall graphical representation of the project design to enable stakeholders to see, interpret and contribute to the project design. Those drawings are created in 3D and put together into one 3D model. Each BIM object has a 3D graphical representation (where checks can be made and the model can be shared across the project team0 and an associated table of its key properties. These usually include data such as materials, dimensions and performance data. These are known as ‘BIM objects’. This complete set of documents within our Revit is what is described as a BIM model.
